Majority of tests in molecular diagnostics and toxicology sections of clinical laboratory are not FDA approved and should be developed by clinical laboratories (laboratory developed tests). Some of these tests are available as off the shelf panels by the manufacturer. However, a significant number of tests in toxicology and molecular diagnostics should be developed as a customized item. Avicenna aids clinical laboratories to develop custom-made tests in molecular diagnostics and toxicology fields. Two main sets of molecular diagnostics tests are pathogen identification and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). Avicenna provides assistance to clinical laboratories to select targets (organisms/genes) for the methods, develop and optimize the procedure for the tests, provide report format and all aspects of running the new test in the laboratory. Drug testing (urine, saliva, blood specimens), prescription drug monitoring, amphetamine optical isomers, synthetic drugs panel (bath salts and spices), and cannabis.
